ATTY PERSSE can take a step up in class within his stride to lift the opening Bahrain Trophy on the opening day of the July meeting at Newmarket.

As a son of Frankel, Roger Charlton's charge has always had a tall reputation and he looked like living up to it by winning his first two starts before he was derailed by Laraaib at Haydock.

Yet that proved to be merely a minor setback as Atty Persse returned to victorious form in style by making virtually every yard of the running to win the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot by a comfortable three lengths.

Starting from a wide draw, Atty Persse had to use up a fair bit of gas to get to the front – but he was hardly stopping at the end, which suggests this one-mile-five-furlong trip should be well within his compass. James Doyle rides today's nap selection.

FRONTIERSMAN, another Godolphin-owned colt, can also claim a first Pattern success as William Buick takes the reins in the Princess of Wales's Arqana Racing Club Stakes.

Charlie Appleby's inmate has been progressing at a rate of knots this term, having won twice as a three-year-old in 2016.

As a son of Dubawi out of the great Ouija Board, one would have expected Frontiersman to be holding his own in Group race company – and when pitched in at the highest level in the Coronation Cup, he certainly lived up to expectations.

He had won a competitive Newmarket handicap on his previous start but Frontiersman showed he is capable of much more than that when pressuring Highland Reel all the way up the straight at Epsom.

Frontiersman never really looked like getting his head in front, as the track really did not seem to suit, but in being beaten just under two lengths, he underlined his so far untapped potential.

This Group Two heat obviously marks a slight step down in company, and it will be no penalty kick with the likes of last year's Eclipse hero and fellow Godolphin runner Hawkbill in opposition, but Frontiersman appeals as a relatively unexposed type with plenty of options on the horizon.

INVINCIBLE ARMY made quite a splash when winning by five lengths at Newmarket last time and can make the transition to Group Two level in the Arqana July Stakes.

Beaten just a short head on his debut by Masar, who ran with credit in the Chesham at Royal Ascot, Invincible Army improved on that when landing a novice event last month.

He certainly did not have to engage top gear that day – and while James Tate's runner needs to find a fair bit alongside the likes of Ascot heroes Rajasinghe and Sound And Silence, he should turn in a bold show under Silvestre De Sousa.

CARTOGRAPHER can make it three wins in four starts this term as De Sousa takes the reins in the bet365 Handicap.

Martyn Meade's runner made all for a three-and-a-half-length win over this course and distance last time and while the handicapper has hiked her 9lb for that triumph, it may not be enough to stop this progressive individual.

RONALD R hit the bar at Royal Ascot but can gain compensation with Andrea Atzeni on board in the closing Robinsons Mercedes-Benz Sir Henry Cecil Stakes.

He met trouble in running in the Britannia Stakes but fairly flew home when given a bit of space to be beaten just half a length by Bless Him.

The handicapper put him up to a mark of 104 following that run and this Listed heat is a nice opportunity before taking another step up the ladder.

PEALER returns to Epsom for the venue's evening meeting and he should find the Chalk Lane Handicap a much easier proposition than his last outing.

John Gosden pitched the 100-1 shot into the Derby and it was little surprise to see him trail home last, beaten 33 lengths by Wings Of Eagles. The opposition here is certainly not of that calibre and his rating of 85 makes him of interest.
