STAMFORD BRIDGE all-rounder Will Rhodes is leaving Yorkshire to join Warwickshire at the end of the season.

Rhodes, 22, has penned a two-year deal with the Bears.

The former England under 19s captain has been recruited by Ashley Giles and Jim Troughton just 24 hours after opening batsman Ian Westwood announced his retirement with immediate effect.

Rhodes has only played once for Yorkshire's first-team this season, in the Royal London one-day Cup defeat against Worcestershire.

“I’m very excited to sign for Warwickshire for the next two years and to take this next step in my career with a club that has also has such a proud history and outstanding facilities," he said.

"I’ve had some great discussions with (sport director) Ashley Giles and the coaching team at Edgbaston, and I look forward to joining up with the squad very soon.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my 12 years in the set-up at Yorkshire, particularly my last four years as a professional.

“My thanks go to all players, coaches and staff for their support. I wish them the very best for the future.”

Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon added: “Will has been offered regular first-team cricket at Edgbaston. We fully understand his reasons for leaving and wish Will all the best for the future.”
