SURREY will be the happier of the two sides at lunch on day one of the day/night Specsavers County Championship match at Headingley, despite wickets for Ben Coad and Steve Patterson.

After Surrey had won the toss, they advanced to 105-2 from 31 overs at the first interval, with former Durham pair Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick hitting 30 and 31 respectively before falling.

Coad had Stoneman caught behind in the 11th over after the left-hander had hit him for two boundaries, leaving the score at 39-1. Borthwick then chipped Patterson to mid-wicket, leaving the total 75-2 after 21 overs.

England limited-overs batsman Jason Roy begins the afternoon on 23, with opener Rory Burns on 21.

Yorkshire have rested Ryan Sidebottom for this match. Harry Brook will come into the side in place of Gary Ballance at the end of day two, when the skipper departs on England Lions duty. Tim Bresnan will skipper Yorkshire from then on.
