STAMFORD Bridge ace Lauren Winfield has been ruled out of England's opening match in the ICC Women's World Cup.

The Yorkshire captain will miss tomorrow's meeting with India because of a wrist complaint.

Winfield sustained the injury in England's final warm-up encounter over New Zealand at Derby on Wednesday, when the 26-year-old kept wicket and then retired out after making 27 from 28 deliveries.

It means she is absent for the India clash at the same venue, forcing England into a late rejig of their plans.

The problem is also likely to sideline her for Tuesday's match against Pakistan at Grace Road.

The England and Wales Cricket Board added in a statement, confirming the news, that Winfield would have her hand in a protective cast until she is reassessed by medical staff.

Winfield came through the junior ranks at Stamford Bridge and still occasionally plays for the Yorkshire Premier League North side.

Her father Andy is also the club's scorer.

A total of 31 World Cup matches will be shown live on Sky Sports TV, starting today and culminating in the final on Sunday, July 23 at Lord's.
