MALTON & Norton golfer Simon Dyson was out of luck again at last weekend's Lyoness Open in Austria, writes Ian Appleyard.

Dyson, a six time former winner on the European Tour, failed to make it past the second day for the sixth time in his last seven tournaments.

He completed his two rounds on seven over par, missing the cut by three shots, and finishing joint 120th out of 156 players in the field.

Dyson, 39, had gone into the tournament looking to build on a promising display in the Nordea Masters where he finished in the top 60 and won nearly £3,800,

But his hopes were effectively dashed by two triple bogeys - the first on the par four ninth in the first round, the second on the par four tenth during his second round.

He may have managed three birdies and only two bogeys on his second round but it was not enough to repair the damage.

South Africa's Dylan Fritelli won the tournament to claim his first European Tour victory.

Fritelli, who had twice been denied a maiden tour win in play-offs, secured the par he needed for a one shot win on the final hole - beating England's David Horsey, South Africa's Jbe Kruger, and Finland's Mikko Korhonen who shared second spot.

Dyson is taking a break from competitive action this week as the 117th US Open Championship takes places at Erin Hills Golf Club in Wisconsin.

He will return to the European Tour on June 22 at the BMW International Open in Munich.
