NEZWAAH can make the long journey north from Newmarket pay dividends by landing the Tennent's British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes at Ayr.

Roger Varian obviously thinks this Listed affair is the ideal jumping off point for his four-year-old and it will be a surprise if she cannot pick up where she left off last year.

Nezwaah was rated just 73 in February 2016 after winning a Chelmsford maiden but she made relentless progress to end the year on a perch of 108.

A Listed victory at Newcastle last June proved the high point and inspired her connections to raise their sights to a Group Two event in Deauville in August, yet Nezwaah was ultimately found out in finishing last of five runners that day.

Dropped back to Listed company at Yarmouth, she ran the smart So Mi Dar to half a length and was probably unlucky to bump into a horse of that calibre.

Varian rounded off the year with a shot at Grade One glory in Canada last October and while she finished seventh, Nezwaah was only beaten two lengths after breaking slowly and duly paying the price for trying to come from behind.

Nezwaah will almost certainly improve for the run but she is upwards of 3lb clear on the ratings, so should still be good enough as today's nap under Andrea Atzeni.

ROYAL BRAVE can bring up his hat-trick in the Guinness Handicap as PJ McDonald takes the reins.

Rebecca Bastiman's charge has gone up 8lb after winning twice at Musselburgh in recent weeks and although he was perhaps a touch fortunate last time out, he picked up nicely and it would be risky to ignore a horse who is in such good form.

MR KHALID can star in a Kempton double for Roger Charlton by landing the 32Red Handicap.

Trained by Marco Botti last term, Mr Khalid won one of his two starts but was switched to Charlton during the winter months, with a change in scenery appearing to have done no harm on his return.

Lining up over just shy of a mile and a half, Mr Khalid defied his awkward-looking head carriage and what appeared to be a less than straightforward attitude to win by a neck.

It may not have been pretty but Mr Khalid proved pretty effective and can step up to triumph again off 4lb higher, with jockey Kieran Shoemark claiming a handy 3lb.

Charlton can also saddle newcomer KLOSTERS to win the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes, with Shoemark again in the saddle.

LASTMANLASTROUND should pay for the drinks with a win in the Follow Us On Facebook At Yarmouth Racecourse Handicap at the seaside venue.

Rae Guest's runner had a mixed end to his initial campaign last year, winning at the fourth attempt at Thirsk in August before proving bitterly disappointing when last of 11 on his final start at Kempton the following month.

Gelded over the winter, he was well supported on his return at Brighton and paid back his followers with a cosy neck victory, although they obviously had to sweat a bit for their money.

There appeared to be a bit still come on that occasion and a 2lb rise should not be too hard to surmount, while Noel Garbutt's 3lb claim is also useful.

IN KEN'S MEMORY made a victorioius debut for Michael Appleby at Brighton last week and can strike again while the iron is hot in the John Kemp 4 X 4 Centres Of Norwich Fillies' Handicap.

Returning from a seven-month break, she was fully in command in winning by two lengths and it is telling she reappears under a penalty rather than waiting for the assessor to have his say. Silvestre De Sousa has the ride.

CARTOGRAPHER showed oodles of promise with her debut second last term and can get an early win on the board in the opening Holidays On The Norfolk Broads Median Auction Maiden Stakes under Jamie Spencer.

Racing wide at Kempton last November, she finished with a flourish down the outside but was beaten a head by Hathiq at the line. A repeat of that form would put her on the premises here.
