THERE will be no brotherly love on show at Trent Bridge tomorrow, with Joe and Billy Root set to go head to head in the Royal London Cup.

Yorkshire face Nottinghamshire in their North Group one-day opener, with all England players available.

Joe will play in the first three matches for the Vikings before linking up with England for next weekend's one-day internationals against Ireland. Yesterday, brother Billy made his one-day debut for Notts in their clash with Worcestershire.

Left-handed batsman Billy, 24, played age-group, Academy and second XI cricket for Yorkshire through until 2011. He made his Championship debut for Notts last year after undertaking 12th man duties for England's Test team on a couple of occasions in 2013 and 2015.

Joe will line up alongside England team-mates Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid and David Willey as Yorkshire bid to better two semi-final appearances in the last two years.

The RL50 final takes place at Lord's on July 1, five days before Joe captains England at the venue in a Test match for the first time against South Africa – and he is desperate to be there with Vikings.

Root said: "It would be great; absolutely brilliant. I love coming back to play for Yorkshire and I'd love the opportunity to do that."

Last year's limited-overs captain Alex Lees has been left out of a 13-man squad, with Bairstow in line to open the batting alongside Adam Lyth.

He opened in yesterday's second-team match against Derbyshire at York, with Plunkett playing for the first time since recovering from his pre-season calf injury.

The England quintet, all named in the Champions Trophy squad earlier this week, will also play against Lancashire and Durham at Headingley on Monday and Wednesday, with captain Gary Ballance wanting to make sure their presence is not wasted.

"With the first few games of the competition, we have our England lads available, so hopefully we can start well," said the in-form skipper.

"We've got to make the most of when they're available. They're not available for many games in a season, so if we can win games while they're here, it would be perfect."

The omens are good for Yorkshire tomorrow. They have won six of their last seven one-day matches against Notts and four of the last five to be played at Trent Bridge.

The Vikings have also won 11 of their 13 matches on the road against all opponents – but they will be facing a buoyant Notts side who have won their first three Specsavers County Championship matches and sit top of Division Two.

Stuart Broad will be available, as will Jimmy Anderson for Lancashire on Monday, as Notts bid to make up for last season's failure to qualify for the quarter-finals despite posting totals in excess of 400 in two home wins.

Overseas signing James Pattinson did not play against Worcestershire but he could return as he gears up for Australia's Champions Trophy bid.

Ballance said: "Notts are a good side in the white-ball stuff and they're going to be tough to beat. But if we can get a win first up, it will give us momentum."

Yorkshire squad: Ballance (capt), Bairstow (wkt), Bresnan, Fisher, Handscomb, Leaning, Lyth, Plunkett, Rafiq, Rashid, Root, Waite, Willey.
