HUNTERS York & District Senior League newcomers Knaresborough announced their arrival in Division One with a seven-wicket win over last year's Ebor champions Dringhouses on a day in which all three promoted clubs were defeated.

Galtres winners Ripon lost at Harrogate by 28 runs, despite 63 from Josh Crewe, as Harry Stothard took 4-26 for the hosts.

Their total fell short of the home side's 201, which featured half-centuries from George Owram (79) and Will Topham (55)

The last of the promoted trio, Hull, made the short trip over Chanterlands Avenue North to neighbours Hull Zingari but came away empty handed.

The home side's 182 was built around 52 from Jack Riley and 36 by Alex Dale as Rob Hodson (3-16) and Jack Storey (3-40) each took three wickets.

Despite chasing only a modest target, the visitors were unable to mount a real challenge, being bowled out for 136, with Laurence Wilkinson picking up 3-35.

Heworth endured a difficult 2016, which resulted in relegation, but began 2017 on a more positive note as they won at Selby by four wickets.

Alfie Oliver (4-15) and Steve Lawrence (3-53) gave the visitors the upper hand and, had it not been for Matthew Hoyle's 76, they would have been chasing considerably less than the 146 required to secure victory.

Lawrence was again to the fore, making 40 and, thanks to 45 from Shaun Leetham, the visitors were well set on the road to victory, despite three wickets from Lee Wild (3-42).

The match between Hornsea and Beverley Town contained over 500 runs for the loss of just five wickets, Hornsea successfully chasing down a victory target of 267-3.

In contrast, Sewerby beat Folkton & Flixton by 85 runs, despite only scoring 174.
