YORKSHIRE are under the cosh against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl, having lost Adam Lyth and Joe Root during a turbulent start to the third afternoon.

The White Rose are in serious danger of losing their second Specsavers County Championship Division One match to Hampshire inside a month.

They were bowled out for 231 on the stroke of lunch in reply to 455 before slipping to 20-2 second time around, with Lyth posting six and Root two to go with his first-innings eight.

They have since reached tea at 81-2 from 29 overs, a deficit of 143 runs.

Lyth edged Gareth Berg behind in the fourth over of the innings before Root was trapped lbw by a Kyle Abbott delivery which kept low at the end of the ninth.

Gary Ballance and Alex Lees have shared 61 unbroken for the third wicket to reach tea unbeaten on 36 and 32 respectively.
