BEN Coad continued his brilliant start to the new Specsavers County Championship season with three wickets to help Yorkshire dominate the opening session of their clash with Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

The Bears slipped to 65-5 after being asked to bat first and went on to take lunch at 73-5 from 29 overs.

Tim Bresnan and Steve Patterson also struck as the White Rose county bid to bounce back from last week's defeat to Hampshire.

Coad removed the first three home batsmen as they slipped to 52-3 in the 17th over.

He had Will Porterfield (16) caught at mid-off in the sixth over before switching from the Birmingham to the Pavilion End.

The seamer then added the wickets of opener Alex Mellor and Jonathan Trott, both for 13, caught behind and lbw respectively in the 15th and 17th overs.

Bresnan trapped Sam Hain (1) lbw in the 20th as Warwickshire slipped to 55-4, before Ian Bell (11) edged an attempted drive against Patterson behind in the 23rd.

Adil Rashid and David Willey returned to the Yorkshire line-up in place of Azeem Rafiq and Josh Shaw.
