LIAM Plunkett has agreed a 12-month contract extension to stay at Yorkshire until the end of next year.

Four-time County Championship winner Plunkett is set for another big summer with club and country and, at the age of 31, has signed up for at least another season at Headingley.

After his successful one-day international tour of the West Indies last month, Plunkett is set for a central role as England bid to win just their second global tournament in the mid-summer Champions Trophy.

The former Durham seamer, after signing his new Yorkshire deal, has set his sights on further success following championship titles with the white rose county in 2015 and 2016.

Plunkett said: "It's my fifth season at the club. Since I joined, we've enjoyed nothing but success and it's been good fun.

"Last year we just missed out but during the previous two years we managed to win the championship and we hope this year we can do it again. We see last year as a blip."

Without Plunkett, who was sidelined for Yorkshire's opening fixture of the new campaign because of a calf injury and will also miss the Warwickshire clash starting on Friday, Gary Ballance's team began with a defeat at home to Hampshire.

He said: "I've got a bit of a niggle at the moment but I hope I'll be back fighting fit in the next couple of weeks. I'm very much looking forward to putting the whites back on and getting back out there for Yorkshire."
