Intransigent should feel the benefit of a drop back to seven furlongs in the sunbets.co.uk Handicap at Lingfield.

Trainer Andrew Balding made the decision to switch to a mile for just the second time in Intransigent's career at this track last month and while it would be hard to say for sure if he stayed, he was certainly found wanting for an extra burst of pace at the finish.

Beaten a length and a quarter, Intransigent was settling for second for the second time in a row having also chased home Keystroke over seven furlongs at Kempton in January.

That rival is pretty smart, as witnessed in last year's Lincoln Trial, but it was a shame Intransigent could not add to his previous victory at the Sunbury venue.

Intransigent remains on a mark of 93 here, 3lb higher than on his recent win, but some 17lb lower than his highest ever perch back in 2015.

This eight-year-old is clearly not the same animal as he was then, but nevertheless remains capable off his current rating.

Bastia makes plenty of appeal in the 32Red.com Handicap despite having to race off top weight at Newcastle.

This three-year-old made a notable debut at Chelmsford last month, winning what was probably only a moderate maiden with the minimum of fuss.

She accounted for some more experienced rivals by upwards of half a length and while she still appeared to have plenty left in the locker, the handicapper has been restricted in his actions by the margin of victory.

Pitched in off 69 here, Bastia can rank higher in due course.

Lady Hester boasts a blue chip pedigree and a win in the 32Red.com Maiden Fillies' Stakes would doubtless further enhance her paddock value.

A daughter of Bernardini out of multiple Grade One winner Questing, Lady Hester made little impact in two outings last year but shaped with much more promise when third at Wolverhampton last month.

John Gosden is obviously keen to get a '1' against this filly's name and this could be an ideal opportunity.

Nicky Henderson loves to send a runner or two to Doncaster and Bivouac looks the one to be on in the BetBright Casino Novices' Chase.

The six-year-old proved decent enough over hurdles but always looked the type to really hit his stride when switched to fences.

He made a belated seasonal bow at Exeter last month, tackling fences for the first time and largely jumping well before a lengthy lay off perhaps just told.

Beaten 14 lengths by an odds-on favourite, Bivouac's fencing looked really quite competent and it will be disappointing if he cannot continue on an upward curve.

Keep a close eye on Most Celebrated in the Pheasant Inn Juvenile Hurdle at Newbury.

The four-year-old gelding looked really good on his hurdling debut at Wetherby in January, but the gameplan unfolded at Haydock last time as he refused to settle in the Victor Ludorum and was by Don Bersy and Zalvado.

Most Celebrated was backed into even-money favouritism that day, so the vibes were clearly positive that he could make his presence felt in that sort of company.

Expect Neil Mulholland's inmate to bounce back in no uncertain terms.
