ROUNDABOUT MAGIC should have a whale of a time back over five furlongs when he reports for duty at Lingfield.

Simon Dow's three-year-old colt was a pleasing winner over this course and distance in November, when he broke his maiden at the 10th attempt with a convincing defeat of Gracious Tom.

He then returned to the Surrey circuit for a six-furlong handicap, before which he was the subject of a sizeable gamble.

But the writing for his many supporters was probably on the wall a long way from home as Roundabout Magic pulled way too hard under John Egan, for whom he could finish only fifth of six runners.

Yet that was a significantly stronger race than this, so it is interesting to see the shrewd Dow dip back down into class six company with the son of Zebedee.

The diminutive Roundabout Magic should also be happier than last time by reverting to the minimum trip, while jockey Hector Crouch's 3lb claim comes in very handy indeed.

So any market move should be seized upon with today's nap selection in the 32Red Casino Handicap.

GERALDINE was unfortunate on her last spin but she can redress the balance in the opening seven-furlong handicap under Martin Harley.

The Stuart Williams-trained filly has been in fine spirits of late, as evidenced by a no-nonsense victory at Wolverhampton in November.

She returned to Dunstall Park a week and a half ago but could not quite nail a double as she came home third of eight runners.

Context is required, however, as she encountered pretty rough traffic issues inside the final furlong, after which she stayed on again behind the useful-looking duo of Sky Ballerina and Seaview.

Geraldine runs at Lingfield off the same mark of 63 and, granted a shade more fortune, must have every chance of claiming a third victory from her last five starts.

FLINTHAM, who has Sean Bowen on board, could be the shining light on a strong card at Chepstow.

Mark and Sara Bradstock absolutely adore this eight-year-old, who has won some nice prizes over hurdles during the last few years.

But it is over fences that connections feel he will be at his most potent, even though he was pulled up in a race won by Native River on his sole try in November 2015.

Flintham must overcome a long absence – he has not been sighted since finishing down the field in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival – but the Bradstocks have put a lot of work into him at home, so he should be fit enough to do himself justice.

He also likes competing in testing ground so it makes a great deal of sense to head to Monmouthshire, where the ground will most certainly not be fast.

The 188Bet-sponsored limited handicap chase for novices looks hot enough but Flintham should enjoy the challenge after so long away from the thick of it.

BROWNVILLE is likely to make no mistake with Sam Twiston-Davies at the reins in the 188bet.co.uk Handicap Chase.

Nigel Twiston-Davies' eight-year-old has struck the crossbar on his last two outings, with second-placed finishes at Warwick and Uttoxeter.

Yet the Naunton handler must have been really satisfied with his most recent start at the last-named venue as he only went down by half a length in a stirring finish. Brownville is 4lb higher for this but he should still have much to bring to the table.

SHAAMA GRISE made an accomplished British debut at this track on January 8 and can kick on for the David Pipe operation in the 188Bet Mares' Handicap Hurdle with Tom Scudamore as pilot.

The French recruit finished runner-up in a two-mile mares' handicap hurdle, in which winner Bobble Boru had that little bit more dash on the run-in. This step up to just shy of two and a half miles should do its job.

URBAN KODE turned in a much-improved effort at Musselburgh on New Year's Day, when runner-up to the handy Dominada, and can be trusted with Alexander Thorne on board in the opening Racing UK-sponsored handicap hurdle back at the East Lothian circuit.

Wolverhampton's evening card is hardly an antidote from the recent cold snap yet it could pay to side with KEENE'S POINTE, who has been in decent enough nick so as to envisage a bold bid in the sunbets.co.uk Handicap. Rob Hornby has the ride.
