UNION Rovers still lead the first division in the newitts.com Beckett Football League after a stormy 3-1 home win against Kirkdale United.

Heslerton won 2-0 away at Stillington Sports and Social Club to move up into second place.

A bad tempered match in wet and blustery conditions saw Union Rovers take the lead just before the interval courtesy of Paul Downes.

During an increasingly acrimonious second half, a disputed penalty decision turned the game fully in Union’s favour as Paul Holder made no mistake from the spot.

Kirkdale reduced the arrears after a Union defender was adjudged to have handled inside the area. Alex Croall scored the penalty.

Union sealed the game late on with another goal that left Kirkdale feeling aggrieved. With one of their own defenders down injured, Kirkdale put the ball out of play.

However, Union opted not to return the ball from the subsequent corner kick and the cross deflected into the net off a Kirkdale defender.

Man of the match winners were Kris Burn and Sam Cooper (Union) and Croall (Kirkdale United).

Heslerton moved up into second place thanks to goals in each half from winger James Webb against Stillington.

Webb shared Heslerton's man of the match award with defender Mikey Clark.

Gillamoor took full advantage of Royal Oak’s involvement in the cup to move into top spot in the second division with a 7-1 win at Pickering Knights.

Ryan Rivis put Gillamoor ahead shortly before the interval and completed a hat-trick with two more goals in the second second half.

Daryl Rivis (2), Jamie Harper, and Sam Taylor completed the scoring. Seb Rivett was on target for the Knights and was also their man of the match. Defender Peter Horner won the Gillamoor award.

Rosedale lost 2-1 at home to Duncombe Park. Ryan Watson scored directly from a corner to give Park a second minute lead.

Watson scored his second in the 32nd minute with a superb finished past the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Rosedale, who hit the woodwork three times in the first half, got a foothold in the contest after 58 minutes when Tom Bell unleashed a 20 yard shot past Park goalkeeper Darren O'Grady.

Jonny Nicholson, who had come on at half time, helped Park restore some control and some fine passes allowed his side to break on the home defence. Jack Wright struck the Rosedale crossbar with an excellent freekick.

Rosedale remained a major threat, often penning the Park side back inside their final third, and the pressure finally paid off when the referee awarded a penalty for a trip.

Bell's penalty hit the foot of the post, however, and it was cleared to preserve Park's slender lead.

Man of the match winners were goalkeeper Alex Linley (Rosedale) and Jonny Nicholson (Duncombe Park).
