CERTIFICATE can pass the Listed test with flying colours as today's nap selection in the Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes at Newbury.

The Roger Varian-trained five-year-old has shown a notable upturn in form this season, after being a slow learner, notching convincing handicap victories at Doncaster and Goodwood.

Both of those successes were over seven furlongs and the son of Pivotal, owned by Cheveley Park Stud, have opted to bypass the Ayr Gold Cup, for which he was as low as 12-1 with some bookmakers, and go instead for Listed honours.

That is quite a bold move and though Certificate is a gelding, he deserves his chance in a higher grade and the ratings suggest he does not have to find that much to be extremely competitive. Andrea Atzeni has the ride.

NEW CALEDONIA is another horse who looked like he was going places when running out a ready winner of a valuable mile-and-a-half handicap at Ascot two weeks ago.

The step up in trip appeared to suit the Cape Cross colt after he had shown a fair level of form at a mile and a quarter.

Now that he has come into his own over further, the Mark Johnston-trained three-year-old looks leniently treated as he takes on older horses for the first time in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap under William Buick.

LAW AND ORDER, piloted by Martin Harley, could be the answer to a fascinating and competitive renewal of the Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes.

A close third to the potentially smart Salsabeel on his debut at Yarmouth, when sent off favourite, he duly opened his account in promising fashion at Newmarket three weeks ago.

Both of those races were over seven furlongs but he looked to be crying out for the step up to a mile, which trainer James Tate gives the Lawman colt now.

CLEM FANDANGO can get her reward for some creditable performances in classy company by lifting the Shadwell Stud/EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr.

Her efforts include finishing third to American speedster Lady Aurelia in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, third to Mrs Danvers in Newbury's Weatherbys Super Sprint and sixth to Queen Kindly in the Lowther Stakes at York.

This Listed race looks well within the capabilities of the Keith Dalgleish-trained filly, who has Phillip Makin on board.

ORIENT CLASS can continue his rich vein of form by making it four wins in his last five starts in the Al Maktoum College, Dundee Handicap.

Paul Midgley's five-year-old has taken a hike in the weights after wins at Nottingham and Haydock but is still worth supporting and he has talented 7lb claimer Clifford Lee in the saddle.
