ANDREW Hodd and Steve Patterson contributed significantly to help take Yorkshire beyond the follow-on target of 345 on day three against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Replying to 494, Yorkshire lost 3-11 to slip to 283-7, 62 short of that target, but eighth-wicket pair Hodd and Patterson shared 58, including 43 for the former.

Kyle Jarvis struck twice with the second new ball after lunch, getting Jake Lehmann for 46, after the Australian chopped on, and Tim Bresnan lbw.

Simon Kerrigan had earlier removed Adil Rashid, caught at short leg.

Hodd played nicely for 43 before falling to a stunning one-handed catch by Liam Livingstone off Kerrigan, running around from slip after a top-edged sweep.

Patterson then drove Nathan Buck for four to ensure Lancashire would have to bat again.

Yorkshire have reached tea on 348-8 from 126 overs, a deficit of 146. Patterson is 17 not out.
