BEN Barnett hooked the winning boundary to fire York Cricket Club under 13s into the National Championship semi finals.

The number nine batsman secured a victory with two balls to go for the Yorkshire champions against their Derbyshire counterparts Denby at Clifton Park.

York will now meet the winner of the Lincolnshire v Nottinghamshire tie in early August to decide who represents the North of England in the prestigious final.

Winning the toss against Denby, the hosts' captain Harvey Gration elected to field and the first wicket was claimed by Corby Doeg with his second ball - an LBW.

Barnett was also in superb form, finishing his four overs with one maiden and taking one wicket for five runs, caught behind by wicket-keeper Max Darbandi.

Further wickets from Doeg and Gration, who finished with 1-11, saw Denby looking shaky on 28-4, before a partnership of 54 proved a big boost for the visitors.

But some superb fielding from Tudor Maude, including a run out, along with excellent overs from Toby Search, Dan Raubitschek and Doeg, eventually limited Denby to 88-6.

Doeg finished with figures of 3-21.

In reply, Gration was lost for just two runs at the end of the first over and new batsman Alex Try-Banton also perished on the same score - with the first of three York stumpings.

Toby Search was caught and bowled for one too and, at 20-3, York were rocking before opener Elliot Watson moved the score on to 35 before departing.

Tom Matthews was then joined by the last recognised batsman Raubitschek and they contributed 12 runs before the former was caught for 15.

Maude, subsequently, went for a duck but, needing 41 runs from six overs, Raubitschek took the lead with support from Darbandi.

With the score on 76-6, Raubitschek struck a four and three from consecutive deliveries

But Darbandi was lost for 13 and Raubitschek run out for 28, leaving York on 85-8, with four required to secure victory off seven balls.

First, Freddy Schofield scampered for two runs and, after three nail-biting dot balls followed, Barnett hooked the vital boundary to make the team regional champions.
