Azeem Rafiq had him caught and bowled off a leading edge in the ninth over before Dominic Sibley and Zafar Ansari took the score from 20-1 to 39-1 from 20 overs.
Adam Lyth’s 202 off 291 balls was confirmed in the early stages of the afternoon as Yorkshire advanced from 330-6 to 407 all out.
Liam Plunkett also hammered 37 off 20 balls in an entertaining start to the middle session.
