TRAINER David O'Meara pulled off a stunning podium finish at Royal Ascot today thanks to long-shot Savannah's Dream in the concluding Windsor Castle Stakes.
Ardad ran out a dominant winner at odds of 20-1 for John Gosden in the hands of Robert Havlin.
But Savannah's Dream, trained by O'Meara at his Upper Helmsley yard near York, finished at the head of the rest at massive odds of 100-1. North Yorkshire jockey Phillip Makin was on board. Pedestal was third at 14-1.
Victory provided a first career winner at the meeting for jockey Havlin, who said: "I've hit the crossbar a few times, thankfully John Gosden kept faith in me."
Gosden said: "I actually entered Ardad for this race before he'd ever run.
"Then he won at Yarmouth last week and I thought he'd go close if he acted on the ground. It's a little loose because of all the rain. He handled it very nicely."
