YORKSHIRE openers Adam Lyth and Alex Lees both survived dropped chances as they headed into tea at 48-0 in response to Somerset’s 562-7 declared.
Lyth (30) struck an uppish drive back to paceman Tim Groenewald, whose one-handed effort was put down, before Lees (17) edged a regulation catch to first slip but was shelled by Jim Allenby.
The pair have otherwise started solidly in response to Somerset’s huge total.
After lunch, Somerset’s James Hildreth (166 off 237 balls) and Peter Trego (94 off 142) signalled their intent by playing attacking strokes from the outset.
Bradford’s Adil Rashid eventually dismissed the pair, the latter of which was the third Somerset batsman to be dismissed in the 90s this innings.
After Jamie Overton’s late cameo – which included a huge strike off Steve Patterson into the River Tone – Somerset skipper Chris Rogers called his charges in.
