AFTER becoming the first team in Yorkshire to gain promotion from one league to another via the pyramid system, when they moved from the Nidderdale League, Pannal have well and truly made their intentions known with back-to-back wins in Galtres Division Two.

After bowling out hosts Sessay II for 177 well inside the allotted overs, Pannal (181-4) took just 33 overs to knock off the required total for the loss of four wickets.

Again it was Rob Smith (94no) among the runs, while earlier Lee Murdoch (3-22) had made life difficult for Sessay, for whom Tom Wilkinson (47) and Paul Flintoff (45) fell agonisingly short of half-centuries.

Easingwold II were well beaten at home by Duncombe Park in a match heavily influenced by the Leckenby family, with first Brian scoring 65 with the bat and then Jonathan taking 5-15 with the ball as Easingwold were shot out for 76. Peter Kent scored 88 in the visitors' 208-7.

Having made the trip up the A1 to Ripon, Wetherby failed to use their allocation of overs while being bowled out for 116 by the hosts, with Matt Morton taking 5-35.

Gary Blackburn (72no) steered Ripon (120-2) home to record their first win this term.

In a low-scoring match at Tadcaster, Hovingham (116) had enough on the board to record a 54-run victory over Tadcaster Magnet (62), thanks in the main to the tight bowling of Stephen Mosey (3-6).

Thirsk (119-5) moved into second place in the table after a five-wicket win at Thorp Arch & Boston Spa (118), thanks to Stuart Christon’s 4-32 and Kieran Fenwick’s unbeaten 39.

In Division Three, Sean Dixon scored an unbeaten 101 as Huby (224-3) were well on top in a drawn match against visitors Rowntrees & Huntington (52-7).

Civil Service batsman Darren Hanley was another player to score an unbeaten 101 as rain again intervened to end proceedings early after Civil Service II had declared on 200-9.

Visitors Heworth III were 119-5 when the match was abandoned.

Elsewhere Woodhouse Grange III beat Dringhouses II by five wickets.

In the only match completed in Division Four, home side Copmanthorpe II made 171-8 against Sheriff Hutton II, Matthew Oakes top-scoring with an unbeaten 77 while Tony Fisher bagged 3-16 in an economic bowling spell. Despite Jag Gopalappa top-scoring with 41, Sheriff Hutton were still some way short at 140-6.

After hitting 106 in his side’s 184-6, Hovingham II batsman Charlie Prest had to accept the intervention of rain to cause the abandonment of New Earswick II's innings at 3-0.
