ALL eyes will be on Midterm at Newbury as Sir Michael Stoute's Classic hope makes his seasonal bow in today's Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup EBF Stallions Conditions Stakes.

The three-year-old is already as short as 12-1 for the Investec Derby and, as a son of Epsom hero Galileo out of multiple Group One winner Midday, he is certainly bred to excel.

Stoute exercised patience with the colt last term, waiting until the dying days of the season before pitching him into a Newbury maiden that has boasted some classy previous victors.

While Midterm only won by a length, he looked thoroughly in need of the experience, picking up well from off the pace to win a shade cosily at the line.

He looked a very useful colt that day and while Epsom in June is still a long way off, his big-race entries show the regard in which he is held and the vibes have been positive enough from the Stoute camp. Ryan Moore has the ride.

DUTCH MASTERPIECE has shown winning form on testing ground in the past and that factor could prove crucial in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap.

Rated 110 and thought good enough to tackle the Prix de l'Abbaye a couple of years ago, Dutch Masterpiece has struggled to regain the kind of form that saw him win three on the bounce in 2013 after a year off through injury.

Gary Moore's charge showed up well in some competitive events last term and eventually managed to poke his head in front in a Listed contest at Ascot last October.

He could not follow up on his final start of the campaign just a few days later but that Listed win saw his rating climb to 107 again and indicated that perhaps the six-year-old is not quite finished with yet. George Baker is today's jockey.

GRUMETI returns to the level fit from hurdling in the Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd Silver Bar Handicap.

His winter over the sticks did not yield much joy so it may be wise to judge him on his latest Flat start, when he ran out a shock 50-1 winner of the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last October.

He appeared well treated off a mark of 84 that day and the fact he only won by a short head has limited the handicapper to just a 4lb rise.

SHADOW HUNTER has been highly tried so far but she can enjoy her moment in the spotlight in the Listed Whitsbury Manor Stud & EBF Stallions Lansdown Fillies' Stakes at Bath this evening.

Third behind Group One winner Lumiere on her racecourse bow last July, trainer Paul D'Arcy then switched her up to Listed level for her next couple of starts, including a win in the Roses Stakes at York.

Group One and Two company then proved too hot but Group Three level appeared to be within her compass as she was not beaten far by Quiet Reflection on her final 2015 start.

D'Arcy then opted to let Shadow Hunter take her chance on the all-weather last month and she again ran a cracker to be third behind Wolowitz in a Fast Track Qualifier for the Lingfield Finals Day.

Given Wolowitz went on to score on that very card, Shadow Hunter's form stands up well and she can find the required improvement as today's nap selection with Tom Marquand on board.

DEFINITLY RED came to grief in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham but can redeem himself in the Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase at Ayr.

He had previously chased home both Black Hercules at Warwick and Blaklion at Wetherby and, with that pair having gone on to Grade One glory at Cheltenham, Definitly Red clearly has the right kind of form in the book.

CALEDONIA scuppered any chance of victory with a blunder at the penultimate flight last time but he can make amends in the Abbott Risk Consulting Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

Previously a winner at Ayr in February, Caledonia is more than capable of winning as long as he avoids any clumsy jumping errors.

CLONDAW CIAN can strike gold in the Laser Novices' Hurdle at Fontwell, while SPIRIT OF SHANKLY should find the back of the net in the Advertiser Media Group Novices' Chase at Southwell.
