TAKE the hint – a horse called GREEN LIGHT tackles the final major handicap of the Flat turf season at Doncaster today and is napped to end his campaign in the same style as he started it in May.

Trained by Ralph Beckett, the Authorized gelding won at Nottingham on his seasonal bow and now makes plenty of appeal to secure the £65,000 Betfred Handicap.

A lover of soft ground, Green Light will have conditions in his favour this afternoon – and there are other positives.

He finished a close-up third to stablemate Argus, ante-post favourite for this race but now a non-runner, on his latest start on this course a fortnight ago. Furthermore, he will be carrying a featherweight 8st, courtesy of accomplished apprentice Patrick O'Donnell's valuable 5lb allowance.

Litigant, winner of the Ebor at York in August, and Penhill, a Haydock winner last time, are among those with sound claims – but they will have 24lb and 18lb respectively to concede to Green Light, who has plenty going for him in a popular and traditional event.

The race will also host the final ride for Britain's top female jockey Hayley Turner before she retires from the saddle. She will be aboard Buonarrotti, trained at Norton by Declan Carroll and not without a chance of winning.

Doncaster have done their bit by staging the Betfred Good Luck Hayley Turner Handicap earlier in the afternoon. This seven-furlong event sees Turner aboard the Tom Dascombe-trained Hillbilly Boy, a course-and-distance winner, who has been in decent form lately.

Preference, however, is for WITHERNSEA, another horse with winning form over this trip on Town Moor and who is very capable at this level when things go his way. Tony Hamilton has the mount on the gelding, one of three runners in the race for Richard Fahey.

The concluding Flat action on turf in 2015 is further highlighted by two Listed races, both of which have £40,000 up for grabs.

In the Betfred Wentworth Stakes over six furlongs, IVEAGH GARDENS is worth a try over this distance after two fine recent performers, chasing home Breeders' Cup winner Found in Group 3 company in a fillies' race over a mile at the Curragh and going down by half-a-length to David Nicholls' Sovereign Debt in a seven-furlong Listed event at Leopardstown.

Iveagh Gardens is very much at home in the mud and is fancied to make her presence felt for Charles O'Brien and jockey Fran Berry.

The Betfred Gillies' Fillies' Stakes may provide the lightly-raced BRANDYBEND with a winning opportunity. Marco Botti's three-year-old shaped well in similar company to finish a close-up third at Newmarket four weeks ago.

Also worth noting at Doncaster are the promising TANNAASUB (12.40) and the mud-loving SEA WOLF (4.05).

Jumping fans will be well catered for today with fixtures at Wincanton, Kelso and particularly at Aintree, where the £40,000 Betfred 'Scoop6Soccer' Handicap Chase takes pride of place.

UPEPITO catches the eye in this two-and-a-half miler following a near miss at Wetherby last month, when narrowly beaten by Village Vic in the Bobby Renton Chase. Dan Skelton's gelding is selected to go one better.

The £30,000 Betfred Hurdle is being used as a starting point to the season by Nicky Henderson for two of his most celebrated chasers – Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth and Simonsig, winner of the 2013 Arkle Chase at Cheltenham.

SIMONSIG has not been seen in public since that success, having been sidelined with leg problems, but if Henderson has him anything like fit enough for his comeback outing, he should make a bold bid.

It is worth recalling that Simonsig won four of his five races over timber earlier in his career, most notably the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Henderson introduces high-class hurdler CARACCI APACHE (1.20) to fences in the novices' chase, while OUR KAEMPFER (1.55) – sure to be all the better for his encouraging comeback at Chepstow last month – is likewise worth noting.
