IT'S a big day for Tim Easterby. The Great Habton trainer, who sent out a first and last race double at Ripon on Saturday, has two solid winning chances on this afternoon's Thirsk card which also plays host to a first 'proper' ride for his teenage daughter, Emily in the concluding amateur riders' event.

In June, Emily made her debut in the MacMillan Charity Race and although she finished unplaced, the experience was enough to light a spark and for her to obtain her amateur licence. She rides out every day for her father and will team-up with White Flag in the Thirsk Ladies' Day Saturday 5th September Handicap.

Although White Flag is a course-and-distance winner and looks sure to give Emily a good ride, it would be asking a lot of the combination to gain a fairy-tale win, especially from a tricky low draw on this five-furlong course.

Preference is for Two Turtle Doves, who finished a good second at Haydock last week and who has the ground in her favour.

Easterby is fancied to score with On A Par and Mystic Miraaj.

On A Par runs in the Racing UK Subscriber Club Days Handicap and is overdue a winning turn. Third at Carlisle two starts ago, the three-year-old occupied the same position when upped to this distance of a mile and a half at Musselburgh ten days ago.

Mystic Miraaj is napped to win the Pirates Family Day Friday 28th August Handicap.

Dave Allan's mount has not been seen since June when chasing home Miss Van Gogh at Ripon, but if this previous Newcastle winner is none the worse for his absence he is entitled to plenty of respect in this run-of-the-mill race.

Lawrence Mullaney, a neighbour of Easterby's , saddles his stable stalwart Jack Luey in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap.

The eight-year-old came good at Beverley last time and, although he has more on his plate here, he is well drawn in stall 18 and will relish the expected soft ground.

Happy Call makes plenty of appeal in the second leg of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Trained at Newmarket by Simon Crisford, the juvenile finished a promising fourth at York on his debut and went down by only a short head at Ffos Las on his latest start. He is fancied to make it third-time-lucky.

Sheriff Hutton trainer Mark Walford has good prospects with Woody Bay in the worldofjamesherriot.com Handicap.

The mount of Graham Lee, Woody Bay finished a creditable fifth to Obsidian at Redcar on his latest start having chased home He's No Saint at York on his previous outing. He is well berthed in stall three.

Also worth noting are Winter Hey Lane (2.10) and the Count Montecristo (3.10)

At Windsor's evening meeting, Postbag is selected to clinch the Unibet Fillies' Handicap.

Henry Candy's three-year-old, a Leicester winner on her debut this season, has since finished a good third at Goodwood. There is more to come from this lightly-raced sort who will have the services of Fergus Sweeney.
