YORK IV beat Welton & Brough by seven wickets to secure their opening win of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division three south season.

Thomas Backhouse was the pick of the bowlers for York as he claimed figures of 3-23 to limit Welton to 130 all out.

David Brown (55) then struck a half-century for the hosts to claim that elusive first win of the season.

There were draws for the division’s top two, Cottingham and Civil Service, as their lead at the top was cut.

Cottingham fell 12 runs short of victory over Scarborough.

Rob Moy’s 5-37 helped skittle Scarborough for 158, but the leaders could only manage 146-8.

Civil Service were four wickets shy of a win against Fenner.

They posted 231 with Suranga Uragaha top-scoring on 60 but Fenner resisted a good spell of bowling from Sam Dodds (3-28) to secure a draw.

Goole Town claimed their first win of the season, beating Yapham to close the gap at the top to 12 points.

Yapham were all out for 141 against Mark Hinchcliffe (4-34) and Craig Mainds (4-38) and Ollie Ounsley then scored a half-century.

Carlton Towers climbed to fourth with a 107-run win over New Earswick. Carlton posted 221-5 and New Earswick were all out for 114.

Sutton-on-Hull were five-wicket winners over Hemingbrough.
