NORTH Yorkshire trainer Tony Coyle is aiming to strike while the iron is hot with Lendal Bridge at Newcastle today.

Coyle hit the target with Lendal Bridge at Musselburgh last week when the four-year-old spread-eagled his rivals and came home with more than three lengths to spare.

Come the end of this week and the Norton gelding will be running off his new revised mark, but Coyle is not prepared to wait to see what the handicapper has in store.

He is running Lendal Bridge under a 6lb penalty in the second division of the Marriott Gosforth Park Handicap. Barry McHugh, successful on 20-1 shot Alfred Hutchinson at York last week, takes the mount.

Nap selection Red Warrior makes plenty of appeal in the J Barbour & Sons Handicap.

Trained at Newmarket by Ismail Mohammed, the five-year-old was beaten by a length and a half into second place at Windsor last time, but looked a little unlucky having met trouble in running at a crucial stage.

Paul Mulrennan has the task of getting him home in front this afternoon.

In-form Richard Fahey has a couple of useful-looking chances with Euxton and Obsidian.

Euxton, who runs in the opening Pin Point Recruitment Maiden Stakes, showed promise on her Ripon debut, while Obsidian's recent success at Thirsk in maiden company suggests he has a fighting chance in the S V Rutter Handicap, dropped back to seven furlongs from a mile.

Neville Bycroft's Adiator (2.50), the mount of Robert Winston, was narrowly beaten at Beverley last week on her seasonal bow. She makes appeal, as does It's Only Business (5.20), a promising third for Clive Mulhall on this course three weeks ago.

At Nottingham, Paul Hanagan may prove the jockey to follow.

The former champion has chances of a four-timer on a wide-open card, kicking off with Majdool in the British Stallion Studs Maiden Stakes. Although an unknown quantity, Majdool is a son of the speedy Acclamation, hails from the powerful Roger Varian yard and has entries in a couple of very valuable sales races in the autumn. It would be no surprise to see him fit the bill on his debut.

Likewise, it's a guessing game from Muwalaah, Hanagan's unraced mount, in the Breeders Backing Racing Maiden Stakes. But again this filly is trained by Varian and boasts an impressive pedigree. She is not to be underestimated.

Hanagan's other two fancied mounts do have some form to go on.

Hurry Home Poppa, who shaped well last time and is a previous course winner, goes for the Horse Racing Loyalty Bonus At winner.co.uk Handicap, and Where The Boys Are, a runner in the first division of the Download The winner.co.uk App Now Handicap, went down by only a whisker to Sleeping Apache at Pontefract last month.

Two others to note at Nottingham are the promising Perceived (3.30), the mount of Jenny Powell, and Parish (4.30), who looks an interesting handicap debutant.
