NORTH Yorkshire jockey Paul Mulrennan, who cycled to Wetherby’s historic opening Flat meeting from his home near Boroughbridge yesterday and was rewarded with a double, has a little further to travel today but can add to his tally at Ayr.

Mulrennan, who donned a sweat-suit before he took to his bike yesterday in order to lose weight before racing, teams up with Finn Class in the Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap and the four-year-old is napped to find opportunity knocking.

Trained by Michael Dods, who supplied Mulrennan with the winning Wetherby mount on Corona Borealis, Finn Class finished fourth to Taghreeb at Redcar on his reappearance a fortnight ago. That outing should have benefited him and he is selected to provide Mulrennan with another winner.

Tim Easterby sends Margrets Gift to Scotland for the Princess Royal Conference Centre Handicap and David Allan’s mount is expected to take plenty of beating.

The four-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign last year and proved a model of consistency. Five furlongs suits her well and she can provide Allan, another jockey who rode two winners at Wetherby yesterday, with a further success.

Richard Fahey continues in fine form and the Malton trainer, who saddled a treble on Saturday, has a good chance with Character Onesie in the opening Racing UK 1 Price 3 Devices Maiden Stakes.

The three-year-old showed promise in two juvenile starts and looks the type to progress this season. Tony Hamilton takes the mount.

Also worth noting at Ayr are Eilean Mor (4.05), a course winner last season, and the lightly-weighted Heavenly River (4.35).

At Southwell, Ben Haslam, who figured among the winners at Wetherby yesterday, has double prospects with Riverlynx and Moon Over Rio.

Riverlynx, who lines up in the Visit mytotepool.com Handicap, finished second at Wolverhampton last time out and may not need to improve much on that effort to go one better this time over seven furlongs, which seems to suit her well.

Megan Nicholls, daughter of trainer Paul, has taken out a licence to ride as an apprentice this season and she teams up with Moon Over Rio in the Like totepool On Facebook Fillies’ Handicap.

Moon Over Rio scored at Beverley last August. Moreover, she is fit from hurdling for this all-weather test.

Hambleton trainer Bryan Smart can land the toteliveinfo.com Handicap with Playtothewhistle.

Adam Carter’s mount goes well on this track, having twice won here before finishing fourth when switched to turf on his latest start. Back on the Fibresand, he is fancied to resume the winning thread.

Neville Bycroft has Misu Mac in excellent form and this slow-maturing five-year-old is entitled to go well in the Collect totepool Winnngs At Betfred Shops Handicap.

Joe Doyle’s mount has twice scored at this venue in recent weeks and is still on the up.

Also worthy of attention is La Dorotea (2.05), who showed improved form to finish fourth in a hot contest at Lingfield four weeks ago. She is entitled to prove hard to beat under Jack Garritty back in maiden company.

Ayr today: 1.50 Character Onesie, 2.25 Indego Blues, 3.00 Margrets Gift, 3.30 Finn Class (NAP), 4.05 Eilean Mor, 4.35 Heavenly River, 5.05 Chilworth Bells.

Southwell today: 1.30 Playtothewhistle, 2.05 La Dorotea, 2.40 Bondi Beach Babe, 3.10 Mistymoistymorning, 3.45 Riverlynx, 4.15 Moon Over Rio, 4.45 Misu Mac.

Today’s other meetings: Kempton, Windsor and Wolverhampton.
