THE 2015 Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division campaign gets under way tomorrow with plenty at stake.

The premier division crown will be up for grabs - along with a place in the newly-created ECB Premier Yorkshire League North for the top six teams.

The 2016 reorganisation of local cricket is designed to create a route to the top of the county structure for ambitious sides, with two-up, two-down promotion and relegation between the Senior League and ECB Premier League.

Reigning champions Woodhouse Grange will be among the favourites to claim a place in the new Yorkshire League set-up.

The Sutton-on-Derwent outfit is one of the few top-flight clubs not to make any key player signings.

They will rely on a plethora of established players including Nick Hadfield, Mike Burdett, Chris Bilton and Andrew Bilton.

In Steve Burdett, they have a quality leader, and leading bowler, and Tom Young is one of the best young all-rounders in the league.

Clifton Alliance will be relying on a strong existing squad under the captaincy of John Gilham, notably Rich Carroll, who took 39 wickets last season, and Joe Ashdown, who weighed in with 500 runs.

Dunnington narrowly avoided relegation in 2014, but they have signed opening bowler Jake Murphy from York and batsman Harwood Williams returns after a season in the Central Yorkshire League at Caribbean.

Easingwold, led by Martin Piercy, have recruited Toby Wells from Sessay and George Barker from Pickering.

Scarborough have undergone a massive transformation after joining from the Yorkshire League, with Neil Elvidge moving from Folkton & Flixton to take over as captain. A raft of new players are headed by Ryan Gibson, who has arrived from the Yorkshire Academy.

Studley Royal welcome back Yorkshire bowler Ben Coad after a spell at York. Rob Nicholson is at the helm again.

Stamford Bridge can also call on the services of a Yorkshire player with former England Under-19s captain Will Rhodes available subject to county call-ups.

Matt Beckett’s side have also added Rich Robinson from Sewerby and Charlie Wilson from Pocklington, while Australian-born batsman Stuart Boyle rejoining the club he first played for 13 years ago.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge could be without Yorkshire bowler Matt Fisher and Academy prospect Ed Barnes, but they have signed Russ Robinson from Sewerby, Louis Foxton from Harrogate and Stephen Croft from Fenner.

Beverley Town will once again have Jon Fisher at the helm as they look to improve on their seventh-placed finish of last season. William Roobottom has joined from Lullington Park.

York II, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have added Darren Harris from Osbaldwick.

The Clifton Park club are the only team in the top flight who know that they will be in the same division next year. There will be no relegation and they are unable to be promoted as their first team are already in the Yorkshire League.

Newly-promoted Acomb have strengthened with the signing of Andrew Brewster from Bolton Percy, who took 34 wickets in division one last season.

Division one champions Heworth will be looking to capitalise on a highly successful 2014 in a year that also saw them lift the Readman Trophy.
