PICKERING TOWN will bid to continue their good recent run in an Easter weekend double-header in the Northern Counties East League premier division - amid confusion over their attempts to sign Selby Town captain Matty Turnbull.

The Pikes, who came away from Staveley Miners Welfare with a fabulous 3-2 win on their last outing, host Athersley Recreation on Saturday before going to Retford United on Easter Monday.

Boss Tony Hackworth and his squad have lost just one of their last seven matches - a 3-1 defeat to title-chasing Shaw Lane Aquaforce - and will be confident of narrowing the gap to ninth-placed Handsworth Parramore in the league table.

Confusion, though, surrounds Turnbull’s future at Mill Lane.

Hackworth announced last week that the centre-half had “agreed to come to us for next season” after a seven-day notice of approach for the remaining games of this season was rebuffed.

But Robins manager Dave Ricardo revealed he had yet to be informed of Turnbull’s intentions for next term.

When asked about the player, Ricardo said: “We have got him until the end of the season. We have been giving him game time. Let’s have the discussions then.”

Goalkeeper David Bramley, though, has gone the other way, having agreed to sign for Selby this week.

The goalkeeper suffered injury earlier in the season and Toby Wells has since come in from York Minster Engineering League side Old Malton St Mary’s to become the regular number one.
