MY Old Piano racked up his 27th Point-to-Point victory as busy crowds attended the newest course on the circuit at Askham Bryan College.

The veteran, trained by Steph Easterby, was the star of the Badsworth & Bramham Moor meeting as he claimed the Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members race for novice riders.

Taking a hold early on, My Old Piano, ridden by Craig Hoggart, struggled for cover early on but Scots Gaelic departed at the final fence and he went on to win.

Now Easterby has a family record in her sights.

“We ran in the novice riders race because Craig didn’t have a ride and it looked the easier option,” she explained of his entry in what turned out to be a three-runner contest.

“This was his 27th point-to-point win and he’s had one under rules. We’d like to get more than 32 wins to beat Urser’s (trained by Steph’s father-in-law Mick Easterby) record.”

The day began with a three-time area champion Chris Dawson guiding Sposalizio to victory in the Wetherby Racecourse and Conference Centre Confined Hunts Race.

Riding a patient race, he asserted on the final bend and went on to win by six lengths from Kings Lodge and William Easterby in second.

An eventful Yorkshire Agricultural Society Restricted race saw Genetic Code fall at the second and damage the fence, forcing it to be removed for the rest of the meeting.

The Ketchup Kid fell on the final circuit and brought down Barton Jubilee as Oh So Serious, with Max Johnson on board, won by a distance from Prince of Ivagh.

Johnson said: “He hung quite badly in his previous race at the Holderness but we had a pricker on him this time which really helped. He deserved to win a restricted so I’m really pleased.”

Force of Habit continued Sarah Dent’s run of good form by winning the Men’s Open race for rider John Dawson, while division one of the Caddick Construction Men’s Open race saw Mr Mistopheles follow up on an impressive point-to-point debut a week ago to win under Tommie Dowson.

Will Milburn, who works for Sheriff Hutton trainer Mark Walford, won division two with Shabach.

He said: “He deserved to win, he’s learnt to settle this season and he’s a genuine horse but I think cheek- pieces just helped get that bit more out of him at the end.”

Young Hurricane and Freya Brewer came out on top in the Rudding Park Ladies’ Open Race by five lengths.

“We were really pleased with him,” said trainer Guy Brewer. “He was good enough to win, despite not really handling the track.”
