NEWLANDS Park went goal crazy as they kept alive their hopes of winning the Scarborough & District League first division title.

With leaders Filey Town on cup duty, Newlands closed the gap to six points with a game in hand by routing relegated Hunmanby United 16-0 - the margin of victory potentially crucially giving them the best goal-difference in the division.

Sean Exley hit six of the goals and Danny Jenkinson five, with Adam Stride and Jack Hakings bagging a brace apiece and substitute Louis Mancrief a penalty on his debut.

Edgehill likewise kept their title hopes alive by winning 4-0 at Sleights, Ricky Greening bagging a treble. Good work by Gary Hepples created the first and Phil Warnett the second just before half-time. Greening completed his hat-trick after the break and substitute Danny Collins got the fourth Former Pickering Town players Greening and Lloyd Henderson were the victors’ men of the match, Second-placed West Pier dropped two vital points when they drew 1-1 with Westover Wasps.

The Wasps took the lead through James Seymour, with Ali Caw equalising before the interval.

Snainton’s relegation to division three was confirmed as they were beaten 2-1 at home by the basement side FC Rosette - substitute Paul Scott scoring a dramatic late winner.

Alex Wray had given the visitors an early lead, with player-manager Leigh Watson equalising for Snainton, both sides then going all out for a vital victory.

Filey Town reserves, second in division two, beat leaders Whitby RUFC 2-0 to open up the title race.

The visitors, already assured of promotion, had the better of the first half but failed to score. Filey got on top in the second half, and scored through Lee Cappleman, netting the rebound after his penalty was saved, and Martyn Jenkinson, with a header from Tom Haxby corner.

In the third division, Seamer Sports reserves beat Westover Wasps reserves 5-4 in a thriller with goals by Kris Tate (3), Connor Myerscough and Steve Smith.

Ayton reserves, who have had a difficult season, beat Sleights reserves 4-0 with a hat-trick by Matty Bywater and a Kieran Friett strike.
