NORTH Yorkshire apprentice Shane Gray, who suffered a crashing fall at Lingfield a fortnight ago, is back in the saddle at Wolverhampton this afternoon and has good prospects of making a winning return.

Gray teams up with Mukaynis, trained by his Hambleton boss Kevin Ryan, in the opening Daily Enchanced ‘Magic Multiples’ At Unibet Handicap over five furlongs.

The 3lb claimer was lucky to escape serious injury in his latest spill, which came when his mount was tight for room and clipped heels with another runner, falling heavily.

Mukaynis was beaten only a length and a half into fourth place by Temple Road at Lingfield last time out, but had previously won on this course with Gray on board in November.

He is napped to oblige again today and put this promising young rider back on top.

Malton jockey David Nolan bids to complete a hat-trick of course wins on Archipeligo in the 32Red Handicap.

The four-year-old, trained by Iain Jardine, won here last month and followed up last week when stepping up from an extended nine furlongs to a mile and a half.

Archipeligo tackles one-and-three-quarter miles this afternoon and the extra distance may bring about even more improvement to offset the 6lb penalty picked up for the latest success.

What Usain may prove the answer to the tricky looking 32Red.com Handicap.

The mount of Barry McHugh, Geoff Oldroyd’s three-year-old came good for the first time on this course last December.

There may be more to come from him yet.

Warden Bond and Spokesperson fought out a good finish on this course at the beginning of the month with the former getting home by a neck.

The two horses now go their separate ways by contesting different divisions of the Ladbrokes Handicap.

Warden Bond, trained by William Stone, is first to go with George Baker and promises to be competitive off a 4lb higher mark.

Half an hour later Spokesperson will be in action under Graham Lee and Fred Watson’s gelding, successful on this course just before Christmas, should make a bold attempt to return to the winning trail.

Danny Tudhope, stable jockey to Nawton trainer David O’Meara, will be reunited with Persona Grata in the coral.co.uk Fillies’ Handicap, the most valuable race on the card.

Three times a winner on this course, Ed Walker’s charge failed by only a short head to beat Dream Child on her latest start after the winner may have got first run on her. The four-year-old is fancied to make amends for her only defeat this afternoon.

Today’s jumping action at Exeter and Bangor is under threat, with both courses subject to early morning inspections because of dipping temperatures.

Top northern jockey Brian Hughes will be hoping Bangor goes ahead. He is reacquainted with Mantou, on whom he gained a slender success at Catterick three weeks ago, in the Matthew Clark Juvenile Hurdle.

Even under a penalty, he commands plenty of respect from the John Ferguson yard.

Wyck Hill, the mount of Tony McCoy, is a fascinating runner in the Matthew Clark Novices’ Hurdle. Although yet to win in five races over hurdles, David Bridgwater’s gelding is a high-class chaser with a rating of 141 over the major obstacles.

Norton trainer Tim FitzGerald has significantly booked McCoy to partner his newcomer Captain Chaos in the Matthew Clark National Hunt Flat Race.

A son of Golan, the North Yorkshire gelding is worthy of interest, given McCoy’s presence on his back.
