MALTON jockey Danny Cook, denied his comeback mount at Newcastle on Wednesday when the meeting fell foul of frost, is hoping a similar fate is not in store at Musselburgh today.

The East Lothian course was due to be inspected this morning because of the threat of low overnight temperatures.

Cook is keeping his fingers crossed that all will be well as he has a promising ride on Streets Of Newyork for Norton trainer Brian Ellison as he resumes race-riding after nearly five weeks on the sidelines.

It was on this course early last month that Cook took a crashing last-flight fall which left him with a double-fracture of his forearm, but he has been riding out and schooling this week and reports himself fully mended as he prepares to add to the 25 winners he has already posted this season.

Streets Of Newyork could well provide him with a winning return.

The gelding failed by only a whisker to beat Special Wells at Wetherby over Christmas.

It would be no surprise to see him go one better in the Andrew Maclennan Is 21 Handicap Hurdle - and put a wide smile on Cook’s face.

Quito Du Tresor is fancied to clinch the featured £12,000 William Hill - On Your Mobile Handicap Chase.

Few would begrudge Lucinda Russell’s gelding a winning turn after going down by a short head to Reap The Reward here a couple of weeks ago.

A similar effort should see him in the shake-up in a race in which Newcastle winner Habbie Simpson probably presents the main danger.

Middleham trainer James Bethell returns Thankyou Very Much to Musselburgh for the William Hill Cosmic Case Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.

The five-year-old opened her jumping account at her second attempt on this course seven weeks ago.

She has a penalty to carry this time, but this does not look a strong race and she is fancied to follow up under the in-form Joe Colliver, who needs only one more winner to lose his 5lb allowance.

Wolverhampton’s twilight meeting could prove a happy hunting ground for North Yorkshire trainers, who are out in force with Mel Brittain leading the way in the opening Daily Enhanced ‘Magic Multiples’ At Unibet Handicap with Singing Star.

The filly made an encouraging return to action when finishing fourth to Little Choosey (now re-opposing under a penalty) here last week.

That was her first outing since last August and she is entitled to have improved as a result.

David O’Meara has good prospects with Pim Street in the Download The Coral App Handicap.

Although no match for an easy winner here last time, Pim Street has some fair form at Dunstall Park and was also a course winner last September.

Ansaab represents Norton trainer Tony Coyle in the featured Coral Conditions Stakes.

Previously trained by Alan McCabe. the seven-year-old shaped well to finish a neck second to Gold Trail at Lingfield last week.

If able to reproduce that form, he is entitled to plenty of respect under Ben Curtis.

John Quinn could add his name to the North Yorkshire scoresheet courtesy of Saltarello in the 32Red Handicap.

The three-year-old went down by only half a length to Wink Oliver on this course last week on his first outing since last October.

He should be fitter this time and commands respect.
