WEST Pier rose to the top of the Scarborough & District League first division on Saturday after beating previous leaders Edgehill 3-2 thanks to a late winner.

Pier took a 20th-minute lead as Ali Caw beat Edgehill goalkeeper Callum Myers - who normally plays for Pickering Town.

Five minutes later, Neil Thomas crossed for Martin Cooper to head a second, but, 10 minutes before half-time, Edgehill were back in the game when Danny Collins scored following good work by Paul Watson.

Edgehill equalised after the interval through Lewis Taylor, but eight minutes from time Pier grabbed a winner, as Martin Cooper and Caw combined to set up Gaz Thomas.

Filey Town rose to second after a 4-2 win at Whitby Fishermen.

James Pinder and Cameron Dobson put Town ahead in each half but the Fishermen levelled both times through Dan Winspear and Neil Hart. Town won the game thanks to goals by Gary Wardell and a second for the impressive Dobson.

Lowly Ryedale Sports Club lost at Seamer Sports, whose marksmen were Travis Wood, Gaz Lawton (2), Jamie Hartley, Joe Gallagher and Matty Forsyth. Ryedale got a sole reply from the spot.

Hunmanby United had a 2-0 win at troubled Ayton thanks to goals by Phil Ansell and Andy Ball.

Newlands Park beat Sleights 9-1 to move up into fourth with games in hand. Danny Jenkinson hit four goals and Billy Logan three.

Whitby RUFC went top of division two after a 12-1 win over West Pier reserves. Mike Kilpatrick and Paul Jobling scored four goals each and Marc Usher two.

Teenager Josh Venner hit five goals as in-form Cayton Corinthians enjoyed a 7-0 win at Snainton, with Alex May and Michael Dennis also on target.
