RYEDALE ‘A’ marched on in relentless fashion in the Ryedale League after another resounding win over a weakened Amotherby ‘A’.

James Rule and Steve Oldfield remain unbeaten in the league and, with Stephen Temple alongside him, it’s difficult to see who will topple them.

Amotherby’s Tom Needham and Gareth Bryning won one each.

Tom Thorpe, playing up a division, gave a creditable account of himself but found the opposition too good and lost all three.

Ryedale ‘B’ remain in touch with their ‘A’ team after an emphatic 9-1 win at Whitby.

Mike Wheatley, for Ryedale, maintained his winning streak for the third match running, ably assisted by Mike Fenby (3) and Dave Burnham (2).

Tim Adams was man of the match for Coneysthorpe ‘A’ with a treble-winning performance. Supported by Joe Suchecki and Malcolm Haswell, they won 6-4 against Ryedale ‘C’, for whom Neil Rayne (2) made a rare appearance. Peter Lee (2) was the other scorer for Ryedale.

Helmsley ‘A’ visited bottom club Ryedale ‘D’ and won 9-1 thanks to star lady Ruth Purseglove, backed up by Adam Ridley (3) and Andrew Turner (2). Paul Morse replied for the ‘C’ team.

Unbeaten players Russ Grimshaw and Tom Thorpe, plus Kenny Brown (2), cemented Amotherby ‘B’s position at the top of division two with a convincing 9-1 win over Ryedale ‘G’, for whom Josh Greaves was the only winner.

Paul Young, Jim Bailey and Chris Parker for Hutton le Hole ‘A’ played two matches and made great strides up the table by beating Amotherby ‘C’ 9-1 and then inflicting a first defeat of term on Swinton ‘A’, crushing them 8-2. Young maintained his 100 per cent record. Ian Dawson for Amotherby took the notable scalp of Bailey.

Coneysthorpe ‘B’ missed the reliable Wendy Prest as they entertained Ryedale ‘F’ and lost 6-4.

James Allan gave a good account of himself but was unable to beat John Gascoyne (2), Andy Paton (2) and Barry Rudd (1).

Coneysthorpe replied through Eddie Prest and Dave Allan.

Ryedale ‘E’ beat Amotherby ‘C’ 7-3 thanks to a star performance from Jean Wardman and key wins for Alan Kirkwood (2) and John Ellis (2). Ken Darby and Ian Dawson won one each for Amotherby.

With three postponed matches in division three, Ryedale Laundry versus FERA was the only game to be played and it saw FERA consolidate top spot with a 7-3 win.

Alfie Kelly, Patrick Hough and Katha Heinrich all won two games, with Andrew Grayson the only Laundry player to post a victory.
