DIVISION ‘B’ side New Globe ‘A’ pulled off a huge shock in the Malton & Norton League’s Team Knockout cup - beating defending division ‘A’ champions Derwent Arms ‘B’.

Andy Clarkson and Guy Stevens won the first and third frames for Arms but Dave Cottington and Jon Parkinson levelled each time.

Jeff Brown then put the second tier side ahead and the pairs combination of Brown and Cottington sealed victory by making it 4-2 with one frame to play.

Last season’s runners-up, Union ‘A’, had a more comfortable ride into the quarter-finals as they saw off Union ‘B’. Steve Jones won the opener for Union ‘A’ and, although ‘B’ team captain John Render replied, Darren Craggs, Wayne Taylor and Ron Taylor made it 4-1. The two pairs frames were shared.

In-form Bright Steels ‘A’ made light work of a tricky match against Queen’s Head as they raced into an unassailable 4-0 lead. Malton Cons and Royal Oak ‘A’ did the same against Blue Ball ‘A’ and Spotted Cow respectively.

Bright Steels ‘B’ beat Gate Inn from the second tier, but Hyde Park ‘A’ made sure there was a second representative from division ‘B’ in the last eight as they beat Blue Ball ‘B’ 5-2. No result was submitted for the tie between New Globe ‘B’ and Hyde Park ‘B’.
