WOMBLETON Wanderers, who reached the Scarborough & District FA Junior Cup final last season in their maiden campaign, have fallen at the third round stage this year, losing 4-3 at Filey Town reserves after a dramatic finale.

The ding-dong game went the way of the Scarborough & District League outfit who scored twice in the last eight minutes after Wombleton had Michael Turnbull sent off.

A Max Gage header and free-kick by Dave Brannan Junior had put Filey two up before Wombleton, missing a couple of key players, turned the tie around through Luke Tateson, man-of-the-match midfielder Tom Ellis, with a brilliant equaliser, and Josh Tateson.

But the Wanderers missed several chances to seal victory and were made to pay as Jamie Gallagher equalised and Martin Jenkinson found a last-minute winner.

Thornton-le-Dale reached the quarter-finals after a 2-0 home win over local rivals Sinnington.

The Sinners failed to capitalise on the hosts’ poor start and Dale also missed chances in a goalless first half.

The Sinners missed an easy chance after half-time and Dale began to take a grip on the game, with Nick Wilkinson firing in an unstoppable shot after 55 minutes following good work by Craig Sunley, and Sunley soon scoring with a free-kick.

The men of the match were Tom Atkinson (Thornton) and Rob Atkinson (Sinnington).

Holders Lingdale United beat Lealholm 3-0 in a well-fought derby - Anthony Jones scoring two, the first a penalty, either side of a Lewis Henderson goal.

Newlands Park reserves edged Malton & Norton reserves 1-0 thanks to Chris Dove’s first-half goal and some superb late saves by man-of-the-match keeper Ben Luntley.

Edgehill reserves had little trouble beating Tennyson 6-1, Mikey Barker bagging five of the goals.

Heslerton’s game against Seamer Sports reserves was abandoned after 73 minutes with Hessy leading 4-2 following an incident involving a Seamer player and the referee.

It has not been confirmed yet if the result will stand, with the matter in the hands of the county FA.

Hessy’s scorers were Robbie Preston, Luke Simpson (2) and Lee Oxendale, with a 30-yarder. Kris Tate and Gareth Sygroves replied.
