THREE birdies in his opening trio of holes have left Simon Dyson in the hunt at the Turkish Airlines Open.

The York-born ace briefly led the $7 million event, at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Antalya, Turkey, after a sensational start on the par-72 track.

After picking up shots at the par-five first, par-three second and par-four third, Dyson moved to four under par with another birdie at the seventh.

But a dropped shot at the very next hole curtailed his surging momentum and, despite another birdie at the 12th, the Malton & Norton GC star parred his way home to record a round of 68.

That left him tied for 15th place - five shots behind the leader, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who fired a nine-under-par 63.
