AN unsung performer proved the scoring hero for free-flowing leaders Tadcaster Albion.

Albion kept up their run in the vanguard of the Northern Counties East League premier division after a single-goal triumph over hosts Athersley Recreation.

Usually the goals flow fast for the Brewers, a habit they have sustained from last season through to this in a flying start. And usually the plunder is shared between the likes of Josh Greening, Callum Ward and Carl Stewart.

This time the decisive points-seizing strike was bagged by midfielder Liam Ormsby. The son of former Aston Villa and Leeds United defensive kingpin notched the game’s only goal in the 20th minute to keep the Brewers out at the top.

While Albion’s consistent run of victories continued so too did Pickering Town’s inconsistency.

The perished 2-0 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare. The ties were locked goal-less at half-time, but two strikes in the space of eight minutes did for the hosts.

Down in the first division of the NCEL, Selby Town were unhinged by visitors Hallam.

The game was effectively put out of the reach of the Robins when Hallam improved on a 2-0 first-half lead with a goal within a minute of half-time ending. Though Ryan Robinson hit a reply five minutes later, the hosts could not further reduce the deficit and ceded a late strike to go down 4-1.

Knaresborough Town kept their cool up to the final minute to prise all three points from the first division trip to Lincoln Moorlands.

Mitchell Hamilton put the visitors ahead after just seven minutes though Lincoln levelled. Again a Knaresborough lead through Craig Ratcliffe was erased by the home ranks.

But Hamilton finished what he started when he struck for a second time and Knaresborough’s third in the final minute.

Harrogate Railway’s interest in the FA Trophy perished when they were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller against visiting Spennymoor.

The North-east side led 2-0 at half-time and after Malachi Farquharson notched Railway’s first, the visitors quickly restored their two-goal cushion. Top scorer Nathan Cartman poached a late second for The Rail.

Scarborough Athletic improved their Evo-Stik league first division north standing thanks to a 3-1 conquest of Farsley on the east coast. James Beadle, Ryan Blott and Gary Bradshaw were the Seadogs’ marksmen.

Harrogate Town’s travails in the lower half of the Conference North deepened when they were toppled 2-0 at Worcester by a rapid two-goal blast in the second half.
