A 12-STRONG York Angling Association team toppled the Worcester & District United Anglers Association in a challenge match.
York AA, one of the oldest fishing clubs in the city, fished the Rivers Avon and Severn and the Birmingham & Worcester Canal on their annual visit to the Midlands.
A new addition to the programme this year was a challenge match against Worcester & District United AA.
Fished on the Warwickshire Avon at Pensham, the match was between teams of 12, in three sections of eight anglers.
The aim for each York angler was to beat the two Worcester men either side of him.
The top rod for York AA had a mixed net of fish, weighing more than 22lbs, including a fine three-and-a-half pound tench.
Mick Lightfoot won section ‘A’ with 4lbs 1oz, including a good roach of almost two pounds, and the whole team chipped in with solid supporting performances.
When the section points were tallied - with one point for first, two for second etc - York totalled 41 points, while their hosts had 67 points.
