A WEAKENED Dunnington side were no match for Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the premier division of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

On the final day of the season, visitors Dunnington lost by 146 runs.

Bridge opener Paul Oldfield had reached 96 when he was caught behind while Mark Fisher hit a good 50. Other runs were provided by Adam Fisher with 26 before Paul Scaling, with 26no, and David Phillips on 30no took their side to 268-5.

Dunnington were given a solid start by Adam Sutcliffe who made 34 in an opening half-century stand, but then the visitors collapsed with only Adam Iyer resisting with a season’s best of 42.

Doing most of the damage was spinner Ben Harrison, whose 5-28 was his season’s best return. Regular second-teamer Dan Cass grabbed his chance to take 3-16 as Dunnington fell to 122 all out.

There were two seriously big innings in Clifton Alliance’s 293-7 against Stamford Bridge.

Topping the show was Joe Ashdown who cracked an unbeaten 141, while Nic Hindle struck 88. Kev Murphy bagged 3-51 for Stamford.

When his side batted, Paul Milner made 32 and Dom Rhodes 35 but Stamford found themselves heavy losers at 155 all out as Rich Carroll claimed 4-25.

Easingwold took tea with some concern after being dismissed for 169 as Studley Royal’s Dan Craven claimed 5-45.

Holding the batting together was Mark Haines,who made an unbeaten 49.

Three Studley batsmen then made cameo knocks with Andy Mackie making 27, Steve Walmsley 26 and Dan Craven 25 but the balance of power was claimed by three Easingwold bowlers who dismissed the Royals for 121.

Leading the way was Steve Piercy, whose 4-24 included a hat-trick. He was well supported by Paul Skilbeck with 3-41 and Rich Lindsay, who took 3-37 in a total of 121.

Champions Woodhouse Grange took 26 points from an advantage draw against Hull Zingari.

Mike Hattee struck his first century of the season in making 101, while Mike Burdett made 38 and Chris Suddaby 33no in a total of 227-5.

Zingari’s spirited reached 192-7 as Jack Storey hit 51 and Ally Markham 60.

York probably saved themselves in a battle of the bottom two when they defeated Sewerby by 72 runs after setting a target of 198-8.

Ian Jarvis was their top-scorer with an unbeaten 75, while Rob Flack made 34 as Russ Robinson claimed 3-52.

Robinson then followed with 42 but Jake Murphy, with 4-35 and Tom Love (4-32) had Sewerby all out for 126 to ensure their relegation.

Easingwold needed a good result in order to guarantee division three north promotion and hopefully to grab the title.

They achieved half their desire from a 25-point draw over Drax which ensured ascent, but their title hopes were thwarted when Sheriff Hutton Bridge took the honours by defeating third-placed Sessay.

Easingwold made 259-7 thanks to 55 from Ryan Waite and Dan Copeland’s 68. For Drax, Matt Atkinson took 3-46 and Tyler Thomas 3-61. In the 167-5 reply, Keith Powell made 45 and Harvey Thomas a round 50.

Needing a win to ensure the title, Sheriff Hutton Bridge found runs hard at Sessay but managed to reach 156-7 thanks to concentration from14-year-old Harry Sutcliffe who made 39. Sessay fell to 130.
