A REFEREEING course will be staged in Scarborough with hopes of bolstering the number of football officials in Ryedale.

An FA Basic course will be held at the University of Hull’s Scarborough Campus in Filey Road, starting on Wednesday, October 8, from 7pm to 9pm.

That will act as an introduction, with the practical sessions to follow held on Sunday, October 12 and 19. A safeguarding children workshop will also be held on Wednesday October 15, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Outgoing newitts.com Beckett League secretary Keith Sales said: “There is a major shortage of officials in the Scarborough and Ryedale areas.

“This course hopefully will help with this problem.”

FA Level 1 Coaching courses are also being held, with a weekend session on Saturday, September 6, Sunday, September 7, plus Saturday, September 13, from 9am to 5pm.
