CHAMPIONS Old Malton St Mary's came from behind to win 8-2 at bottom side Easingwold Town to keep up their 100 per cent start to the York Minster Engineering League premier division.

Old Malton, who made no changes to their starting line-up, enjoyed the lion’s share of early possession and the first chance fell to centre-half Dean Readman, who met Darren Dunning's corner at the far post but was unable to steer his volley on target.

Things got worse for the usually dependable Readman as his back pass then went straight to home striker Brandon Carrick, who advanced into the box and beat Toby Wells with ease.

Old Malton hit back immediately as full-back Jack Riley, having another fine outing, delivered a low cross for midfielder Callum Scott to knock in from close range.

Shortly after that, in-form winger Dean Nuttall hit a speculative 30-yard shot that bounced low past the keeper.

Dunning then escaped down the inside right, checked back inside and his measured cross found Marcus Godsell, who sent a glorious volley flying past the keeper.

Skipper Robbie Baker picked up his customary injury, having to be replaced by the reliable Paul Hodgson, leading to a shuffle in positions for a few players.

The changes had little effect on the champions as a neat turn in the box from Riley saw the full-back clipped by his bamboozled opposite number, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a spot kick.

Player boss Dunning despatched the penalty low past the helpless keeper.

With the game won by half-time, Old Malton could have been forgiven for easing up, but that was not to be the case for the woeful hosts.

Another run from Riley allowed winger Josh Bown to test the keeper. His effort was saved, only for Nuttall to smartly volley home past a posse of defenders.

The hosts were posing a negligible threat by that stage and the lead was added to by Scott after more fine work from Riley.

The seventh goal came from full-back turned striker Danny Fogg as his low 25-yard effort totally wrong-footed the keeper.

Constant pressure brought another goal as Dunning's corner went straight in, despite the keeper's best efforts.

Unfortunately, Wells blotted his copy book as he palmed an over-hit cross into his own net with the final touch of the game.
