FLAMBOROUGH'S Alex Belt added yet another title to his impressive season’s haul when he won the PGA North Manchester Open at Marriott Worsley Park.

The 28-year-old EuroPro Tour player, attached to the Snainton Golf Centre, near Scarborough, rolled in six birdies in the last 11 holes as he breezed past the overnight leaders with a closing round of 66 to add to his opening 69 for a seven-under-par aggregate.

That left him a shot ahead of Renishaw Park’s Michael Ramsden as Stockport assistant Danny Wardrop, a former Challenge Tour player competing in his own Manchester backyard, finished third three strokes off the pace.

Belt powered to victory in the De Vere PGA North Region Championship at Herons’ Reach in May and, a few weeks later, lost in a play-off against Abbeydale’s Gareth Davies in the Yorkshire PGA Masters at Sandburn Hall.

His victory meant he increased his lead in the Michael Slater Order of Merit to 295 points over Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady, who was defending his title in Manchester.

LEADERS: 135 Alex Belt (Snainton Golf Centre) 69 66;136 Michael Ramsden (Renishaw Park) 69 67; 138 Daniel Wardrop (Stockport) 67 71;139 James Freeman (Owston Hall) 68 71; 141 Paul Carman (John Letters Academy) 72 69, John Wells (Snainton Golf Centre) 71 70, David Shacklady (Mossock Hall) 71 70.
