HARROGATE Railway Athletic proved the sole survivor of the three North Yorkshire sides pitched into preliminary round action of the FA Trophy.

The Evo-Stik League division one north side advanced into the next round but only after a late, late show.

The trailed to a ninth-minute strike at Garforth Town, but then turned the tie on its head with two goals in the last 12 minutes.

Nathan Cartman’s sixth goal of the season restored parity and then, six minutes later and, six minutes before the final whistle, Adam Baker bagged the winner.

But there was no progress for either Northern Counties East League duo Tadcaster Albion or Knaresborough.

Albion had the hardest task and so it proved as the NCEL premier division hosts fell to a brace of second-half goals from visitors Spennymoor Town, while Northern League opponents likewise halted Knaresborough Town’s run. The NCEL division one side could not erase an eight-minute spot-kick winner from West Allotment Celtic.

Pickering Town’s propensity for falling to heavy defeats struck again as they crashed 5-0 at Worksop in the NCEL premier division.

The homesters led 3-0 by the 35th minute adding two goals in the space of five minutes midway through the second half to complete an unhappy nap hand for the Pikes.

Selby Town, however, inched to sixth in the NCEL first division after seeing off Rossington Main 2-1.

Ryan Robson opened the Robins’ account two minutes before half-time with Daniel O’Connor adding the second four minutes from full-time before a stoppage-time reply from the visitors.

Joy at last for Harrogate Town. At the sixth attempt, they won their first the Conference North match thanks to a 55th-minute decider from Jonathan Margetts to see off Oxford City at Wetherby Road.
