Stillington Sports & Social Club are gearing up for their newitts.com Beckett League bow a week on Saturday.
Since the league’s annual general meeting on June 10, Easingwold Town 3rds have withdrawn from the second division, but in their place come Stillington, who travel to Kirkdale United when the league kicks off on Saturday, September 6 with a full programme of fixtures.
Thornton-le-Dale, who have two sides in the Beckett League, have a new first-team kit sponsor for the season ahead in Russell’s Cafe and Bakery of Pickering. They also have a training kit sponsor in supporter Barbara Leigh.
The club are want to recruit a few more players and anyone interested is asked to phone club secretary Michael Barnes on 01751 475134 or 07733 407495.
First division outfit Ryedale Sports Club reserves also want a new goalkeeper and anyone interested should phone secretary Steve Walker on 01751473390.
Meanwhile, Heslerton's annual Jonathan Ward Memorial Five-a-side tournament was won by Ayton, who beat Red Army (Union Rovers) 3-1 in the final.
The beaten semi-finalists were last year's winners Wombleton Wanderers and West Riding. The other teams taking part were Sherburn, Langtoft, Thornton-le-Dale, with two two teams, a Jonathan Ward team (Heslerton), Gillamoor, Heslerton Juniors and Brooklyn.
Club chairman Dean Storry said: "It was a fantastic day with some superb football played. Thanks go to all the teams who took part and to everyone who helped to run the event, which is now a very popular date in the local football calendar."
