ACOMB were toppled by their Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division two south rivals Beverley Town, who widened their lead to 26 points before yesterday’s matches.

Acomb’s 193-6 included runs from Dave Littlewood (37), Neil Grant (34), James Fletcher (33) and Matt Williams (29).

Ben Fish hit an unbeaten 55 when Beverley responded. Tim Smith added 38 and Richard Riley 36, while Parnaby added 29 to thwart the efforts of Paul Downey, who took 3-42.

Clifton Alliance batted first at home to Londesborough Park and posted a total of 180. Matt Phillips led the way with 60, while Kev Bradley made 44 and Alistair Wray 36. Ryan Curtis bagged 5-49.

Greg Drewery, with 84 not out, and Tim Nettleton, who made 65, then eased Park to a seven-wicket win.

The division four west match between Carlton Towers and Dunnington was awarded to Carlton as Dunnington were unable to field a side.

This gave Hemingbrough the chance to increase their lead to 35 points which they duly did by beating Copmanthorpe II by eight wickets.

P Newton made 26 for Copmanthorpe but his side could only total 90-8 as Paul Van Dijk claimed 3-14.

Despite a brace of setbacks, Hemingbrough grabbed maximum points as Jon Lister made a season-best 36no and Matt Milburn was unbeaten with 28.

Woodhouse Grange had a dismal day at Thorp Arch where they were dismissed for only 90 and then lost by nine wickets, gaining no batting or bowling points.

The honours were taken by two Thorp Arch players with Oliver Riley claiming 4-20 and Jim Riley reaching 50 not out.

Duncombe Park were bowled out for only 99 at division four central leaders Copmanthorpe but were then saved when the adverse weather prevented any after tea play.

Stillington II conceded to New Earswick due to lack of players.

Graham Purdy was the only batsman to show at Dringhouses, where his 30 was enough to earn a win for Civil Service.

With Mudassir Ali Kahn claiming 3-13, Service were all out for 91. But that total was ample as Harry Claxton rose to the occasion to produce a superb 6-7 haul and help to rout the opposition for a mere 37 runs.
