GILLAMOOR won the Feversham League by one point after beating High Farndale in the title-decider.

Alec Medd was the hero, cracking 28 off their last over to set up a comprehensive 46-run triumph.

Despite John Lumley’s 13, High Farndale’s bowlers, particularly Mark Fairweather (2-20), had held the upper hand early on.

But that changed when Matt Durrant set about trying to smash the ball to all corners. He occasionally skied it but the fielders’ attempts to catch it were poor, and he raced to 40 before being out.

High Farndale were not out of it, though, until that last over. Medd hit two runs off the first ball, then four consecutive big sixes over the southern hedge into the next field, before finishing with another two.

He ended unbeaten on 53 as Gillamoor totalled 126-4.

In reply, Kevin Wilson smote 16 and Rob Atkinson (25no) played well, but Farndale never had a shout and ended on 80-4.

It was hard luck for Farndale, who would have expected to pick up more points from their two rained-off matches at Slingsby.

They got consolation in the Supplementary Cup final with victory over nine-man Slingsby.

Slingsby had home advantage but made a dreadful start, plummeting to 9-4 after five overs, after two wickets for Stuart Dowson, one for Fairweather and a smart run-out.

Sam Newton (15) and man-of-the-match Doug Bentley (20) made a fight of it by putting on 40, but Slingsby’s 59-7 was inadequate. James Blacklock took 2-12.

For Farndale, Brian Leckenby retired after stroking 27 runs, and Atkinson made 20 as victory by seven wickets came in 10.1 overs.

The cup’s uncertain future wasn’t helped by a depleted team and such a one-sided final.

Burythorpe proved too strong for York RI in the Countess of Feversham Cup semi-final at Slingsby, winning by six wickets. On a damp, green pitch, Adam Sutcliffe (3-5) and Matt Beckett (3-7) saw RI skittled for 45. There were three ducks in the reply but Mike Linsley (24) took Burythorpe to victory.
