FLIXTON got one over on rivals Staxton by beating them in the rearranged final of the Scarborough Hospital Cup at North Marine Road.

Staxton 'A', again the Andy Hire Scarborough Evening League champions, beat Flixton 'A' in the Harburn Cup final to also lift that trophy. This time, though, Flixton turned the tables.

They won the toss and, after putting Staxton into bat, had them in deep trouble at 5-2. Stax recovered, though, thanks to a 93-run partnership between Rob Pinder (59) and Chris Dove (35), finishing on 138-6.

Flixton nevertheless reached their target for the loss of only three wickets thanks to Ben Elvidge's unbeaten 61 and Ollie Stephenson's knock of 24.

Hospital Cup president Mick Blackborrow presented Elvidge with the man-of-the-match award and handed Eleanor Paterson, from the Scarborough Hospital League of Friends, a cheque for £1,000, which was raised through entry fees, donations and raffles in this year's competition.

Staxton 'A', division 'A' champions for the ninth time in 11 years, nevertheless capped their trophy-laden season in the Scarborough Evening League with victory over division 'B' winners Scalby 'A' in the league's presentation match last Tuesday.

Staxton had retained the crown thanks to their all-important victory over long-time leaders Ebberston on the last night of the season. Ebberston finished as runners-up, while, at the bottom, Cloughton 'A' and Forge Valley 'A' were relegated.

Coming up with Scalby 'A' are division 'B' runners-up Sherburn. Going down from division 'B' are Cayton 'A'. Ganton won the division's Hunter Cup.

Ebberston 'B', pictured WHERE, won the division 'C' title and are joined in promotion by runners-up Scalby 'B', who capped a good summer for their evening teams. Ebberston 'B' had also reached division 'C's McCain Cup where they lost to Staxton 'B'.

Andre Meunier, pictured WHERE, right, league president and owner of league sponsors Andy Hire, presented trophies after the presentation game, including that for the best bowling performance, which went to Ebberston's Frankie Beal, pictured WHERE, left, for his 6-27.

The batting award, as previously reported, went to Ian Cousins, of Ganton.
