TEAMS from around North Yorkshire took part when Malton Bowls Club held their annual Eric Woods Memorial triples competition on Saturday, sponsored by JB Motors.

Scores in this popular whistle competition were close going into the final session and it was Steve Davison's rink from Thirsk that took the main honours, with Marc Morley 's trio from Sowerby taking second place.

In the prizemoney with a fine third place was Alec Young and his team from Kirkbymoorside.

The trophy was presented by Norman Wood, brother of the late Eric, and prizes presented by Stuart Carruthers, of JB Motors.

A Malton spokesman said: "The club would like to thank all the teams that entered the competition, and would also like to thank the club members and friends for their help in making the event such a success."

Meanwhile, the final of Helmsley Bowling Club's Gary Ford/Paul Deaves Memorial Trophy proved to be a family affair.

In a closely contested showdown over 15 ends, Brian Garbutt overcame strong opposition from his wife, Gwen, to lift the silverware.
